Presentation

This workshop is organised by the Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu. It will take place 17 - 20 september 2008 at the new Paris Rive Gauche site of the Université Paris Diderot (Paris 7).
There will be two mini-courses of 3 hours each, as well as contributed talks selected by the scientific comittee.

This international meeting aims at bringing together experts who share an interest in braid groups, and expects to raise fruitful interactions among them.

Mini-courses

Michel Broué
Complex reflection groups and associated Braids

Gilbert Levitt
Automorphisms of free groups and train tracks
Motivated by work of Thurston about surfaces, Bestvina, Feighn, and Handel have developed train tracks in order to study automorphisms of free groups: the structure of an individual automorphism, as well as the group of all automorphisms.
This mini-course will be an introduction to the subject.
